Music at St. Andrew's

Music has always been an important part in what we do at St. Andrew's. It has been said that one who sings, prays twice!

We have a dedicated senior (but not THAT senior) choir, a small orchestra and original contemporary music. Most Sunday mornings, you will hear piano and organ.

Can you join the choir ? Of course! The choir practices on Saturdays, from 4-6 PM. All are welcome and no experience is required. The selections are varied, with newer compositions being sung along with the favourite sacred hymns from earlier times.

Our anthems, the most-loved of them written by our own, wonderfully creative Ralph Johnston, Director of Music, celebrate God’s glory in the heavens and emphasize God’s loving presence here on earth, in every human heart and every creature. His lyrics and music ring with tenderness, and joy.

Our sunday services often include guest soloists or groups who offer their gifts of music to enrich our worship.

Special music can be heard during the times of Advent, Christmas, and Easter. Each season of the Church year has its own unique musical character - and this is reflected in our services.

St. Andrew's also serves as a venue for many community-based choral and instrumental concerts.

The acoustics of our sanctuary are remarkable and create a pleasant resonance that complements our "joyful noise" of praise.

"Omega and Alpha He!
Let the organ thunder,
While the choir
with peals of glee
Doth rend the air asunder.

(Unto us a Boy is Born - traditional carol)

the pipe organ keyboard

St. Andrew's pipe organ was originally installed during the Church construction of 1904. it was then completely rebuilt and enlarged in 1956 by Norman and Beard of London England. It is still lovingly tended by John Munro of North Bay.

A detail from the stained glass "harp window" that shines upon our sanctuary - it serves as a reminder that music can illuminate our spirit in so many wonderful ways.
